Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Attorneys in Portland

Nursing home abuse and neglect can take place in foster homes, nursing homes, and residential care facilities.  Many of these facilities provide excellent care; however, many do not.  Often these homes are understaffed, with workers who do not have proper training, are paid poorly, and who don’t treat the resident as a priority.  The result is neglect and abuse, causing physical and emotional harm.

Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Attorneys in Portland

Approximately, 1.5 million U.S. citizens currently reside in nursing homes or at similar forms of assisted living, and this number is bound to increase with the growing aging population. Nursing home abuse is a major issue in the United States. Nearly 5 million elderly patients are abused each year, as reported by Nursing home Abuse Justice. That translates to around one in ten people over the age of 60 being abused.

A guide to Oregon’s nursing home regulations and procedural law

The Oregon legislature enacted a nursing home patients’ bill of rights to protect the rights of nursing home residents because of the heightened vulnerability of older patients in such facilities. The nursing home patients’ bill of rights guarantees patients the following rights: to be treated with respect and dignity; to have their medical records kept confidential; to be free from physical and emotional abuse; to not be transferred or discharged without a valid explanation; to be fully informed of the policies applicable to all patients and staff of the facility; and to be protected from retaliation in response to complaints or input regarding treatment.

How to spot nursing home abuse?

Nursing home abuse and neglect might be hard to detect, but there are warning indicators to look for. These include the resident’s reluctance to open up in front of caretakers; bad personal hygiene; running away; ditching the hospital; bed sores; rapid decrease in weight; abnormal bleeding, bruising, or infection with no obvious cause; unintended and immediate monetary hardship; etc.

My name is Linda and my son in law recommended Ryan Hilts. I did not think I needed a lawyer. My son in law said “If you don’t win you don’t pay”. That made a lot of sense to me. After calling Ryan I realized how comforting it is to have a lawyer. I was in a car accident. The driver was drunk and hit me and took off. A hit and run accident. Ryan told me by Oregon Law I was able to go to the doctors. I was able to get the much needed help. My Chiropractor was amazing. It took time to heal. Ryan was always available and always called me back, when I had any questions. He is a wonderful family man. A man of integrity. He also sent emails and texts to wish our family well on all the Holidays. He went above and beyond what was expected. My case was won without a doubt. I would definitely go back to Ryan for any lawyer needs. He is a good man and you can trust him. Thank you Ryan for everything, words are not enough to express all you did for us.

I was involved in a personal accident case where the insurance company denied responsibility for nearly two years and we eventually had to go to trial. Ryan helped me through the whole process, answering my questions and keeping me informed as to what was next in the process. My first recommendation is to never get involved in an accident but if you are and an insurance company is trying to treat you unfairly, contact Ryan and he will make sure you’re informed about your rights and your best course of action.  Can’t imagine where I’d be in this process without his expertise. Thanks again Ryan.

I called one of the biggest law firms in Portland and though they were unable to take my case they referred me to Ryan.  From the start Ryan always had an answer for everything and handled the case better than I could have hoped for.  I couldn’t be happier with the results of my case.  Really professional guy, highly recommend.

My recent interaction with Ryan on a personal injury case made a significant impression on me. His professionalism was matched by his attention to detail and work ethic—all of which were crucial to a success outcome. In a lifetime of positive experiences with attorneys, Ryan’s behavior still stands out as a reminder of the positive qualities and characteristics that should be present in all attorneys

Ryan did a fantastic job handling my case, despite many complications that happened along the way. At one point I temporarily relocated to Italy, and he still managed to keep in constant contact with me! He is friendly but professional and I always felt I could call him for any reason. No question was too silly or small.

Ryan was happy to take the time to answer all of my questions, and keep me informed on the many changes my case took. He did a great job and in the end got a better result than others had told me to hope for!

It was our good fortune to have Ryan Hilts as our attorney. Ryan helped our children avoid a lawsuit and get a successful settlement. He taught us so much. He represented our family with integrity.

Ryan is a terrific lawyer and a better person. He went above and beyond to reach a settlement in my case and believed in it when no one else did. He’s very intelligent and caring and is always putting the best interests of his clients before his own. Ryan knew more about my case than I even did. He is truly dedicated to his clients, and I can not explain how much I honestly appreciated that. I recommend that you give him a shot if you need to hire an attorney. He won’t let you down.

I could never say enough good things about Ryan. He was always there to take my calls and answer all of my questions. I really felt like he was working for me; like I was his top priority.

I was recommended to Mr. Hilts by a friend when I had my car accident. I was very impressed with his knowledge and the way he guided me through the process. I appreciated that he always returned my calls and kept me informed about the progress of my case.

I had a great result, thanks to his efforts on my behalf. It was far better than I had expected and I would highly recommend him to any one involved in an accident.
